switching gold tactics
am through buying full ounce gold unless a giant price drop should happen. have enough. will now buy no larger than 1/4 ounce. moving heavily into 1/10 ounce fractuals. mark up yes, but not too onerous. will still fart around with small foriegn just for the hell of it. my reasoning is when gold goes to 3000 an ounce as the us$ goes the other direction, going in and plunking down that much cash for a single coin will be out of the question for almost everyone. to back this up, yesterday i was at a coin store discussing this strategy and the owner was old school and still thought ounces were the best bet. HOWEVER, he said he just got a shipment of 1/2 ounce silver rounds from some outfit outa alaska and these are filling a real necessary niche for him. he said that he many blue-collar workers who would every week after payday come in and buy a silver round. with the price doubling in silver in a year and a half, they now only have enough to buy one of these 1/2 rounds.

Re: switching gold tactics
I was just thinking of this today when purchasing a few coins. I was debating getting them in smaller coins but I refrained due to the markup. Maybe next time. :D

Re: switching gold tactics
For reasons unknown to me my local dealer would sell me fractional eagles at the same price as 1 ounce eagles, so I would buy the fractionals he wanted to get rid of when I had dough. I have 9 fractional ounces of GAE's.

Re: switching gold tactics
for some reason some of the local dealers don't seem too pleased with the 1/10 ouncers. i think that'll be changing soon enough. good going on your deal, i envy your good fortune :D

Re: switching gold tactics
I hope you have luck obtaining fractional eagles. Remember there is no shipping with the local guy. If you establish a good relationship he may give you some deals.
